Corneal Refractive Therapy with Paragon CRT lenses for night use

We used optometry practice of Dr. Massimiliano Stolfa of Frosinone (Italy) who kindly provided a degree of anonymity, the data for some of his customers (not all of them to be lighter on the page and avoid duplication of dates by the similarity of some cases ) currently using contact lenses for orthokeratology built by the firm Paragon (Mesa, Arizona, USA) for the compensation of myopia and myopic astigmatism compound.

The results exceeded expectations and limitations suggest that the characteristics of the lens to the applicators. Merit of Dr. Stolfa that with great professionalism has been able to select and closely follow its carriers. These were freed from the problem that corneal lens for daytime use, especially for hydrophilic lenses, are conditioned by the environment in which they are immersed (dry air, airborne dust, allergens that much time remaining on the lens had much time to irritate the eye, sea water or fresh chlorine, etc..). Here are a few cases to highlight the possible solutions and also in some plots of contrast sensitivity in order to highlight how, even in more complex cases, this not only does not deteriorate, but even better with a consequent increase in visual performance low contrast conditions (night vision, a vision in bad weather, vision in the fog, etc..). There was no need to repeat the graphs of the contrast sensitivity for all cases because the result is always the same and would have been a consultation only more tedious and repetitive.

Customer # 1, he/she wore glasses and contact lenses and used CL HGP with satisfaction before treatment with Paragon CRT lenses nightly. The glasses had the following prescription: RE Sf. cyl.-4.00-2.00 Ax 165; LE Sf. cyl.-4.25-1.75 Ax 180. The vision was 0.70 RE and 1.00 LE (easily detectable by graphic difference in contrast sensitivity in the bottom of the table). He wanted to take off your glasses even if the data were refractive believe that the end result might be unsatisfactory, largely referring to the parameters and corneal astigmatism present fairly flat. Nevertheless, not without difficulty, we reached an excellent result. Topographies are in absolute scale, in particular highlighting and despite some irregularities on the surface, these do not affect vision, even at night. This is illustrated by graphs of the contrast sensitivity housed near each topography. These graphs show that the contrast sensitivity even increases with the use of lenses Paragon CRT despite the fact that the topographies reveal some irregularities.

Cutomer # 2, he/she wore soft contact lenses and glasses that used with satisfaction before treatment with Paragon CRT lenses nightly. The prescriprion used was: RE Sph.-6.00; LE Sph.-6.50. Visual acuity with correction in use was 0.925 for the right eye and 0.95 for the left. He/She wanted to take off your glasses to play sport in a more open and efficient without the fear of losing contact lenses he used. The case presented is difficult to fix as this myopia and corneal parameters rather flat. It took several days to adapt gradually to the best lenses to obtain an excellent result. As you can see from the graph of contrast sensitivity placed next to each topographic image, it is improved by using the Paragon CRT lenses. The elimination of myopic refractive defect has meant that the visual efficiency improves not only in terms of tenths (visual acuity compared to before treatment with the naked eye, as it was normal to expect) but also as a contrast sensitivity. In fact the customer # 2 examined has no problem driving at night while the opposite occurs in many laser surgery.

Customer # 3, He/she used both hydrophilic contact lenses glasses before treatment with Paragon CRT lenses nightly. The prescription used was: RE Sph.-1.50; LE Sph.-0.75, with which he solved 10/10 in both eyes. Despite the low myopia had the need for a clear view at the university and did not tolerate well the glasses. With Paragon CRT lenses have completely solved the problem and myopia has completely disappeared with the use of such lenses for only two nights a week. A small annoyance for a huge advantage.

Customer # 4, He/she used only glasses (RE Sph.-2.75; LE Sph.-2.50 with visual acuity of 1.00 for each eye) before treatment with Paragon CRT lenses nightly and had never worn any type of corneal lens. He started wearing Paragon CRT lenses all night from the first day without problems. The satisfaction was immediate and the second day was still a residue of only -0.75 myopic in both eyes. From the fourth day on the reset was perfect and now wearing Paragon CRT lenses on alternate nights maintaining emmetropia also the day after the night he has not worn the lenses.

Customer # 5, He/she often used glasses (RE Sph.-3.00, LE Sph. 3:50 cyl.-0.50 Ax 170) and rarely hydrophilic contact lenses prior to CRT therapy. In a few days, he/she obtained an optimal outcome that is maintained even if the application does not happen every night but on alternate nights. The vision is excellent both day and night. Now he/she can do any sport, especially aquatic ones had earlier created many problems. May use any sunglasses without limitation in shape and type of the filter (which was not possible before due to the need of having to mount lenses sull'occhiale chosen).

Customer # 6, He/She used only glasses with the following prescription: RE Sph.-1.00 Cyl.-4.00 Ax 155; LE Sph.-2.50 Cyl.-1.00 Ax 170 and VA with the correction: RE 0.95, LE 1.00. With the adoption of the Paragon CRT lenses for use at night the vision came to 10/10 in both eyes. Initially he/she had some difficulty at night as the alcohol tended to fall to -0.50. Now, after 20 days of lens wear, vision is stable and optimal both day and night.

Customer # 7, He/she used only need to remove glasses and had to go where he attended lectures in the pool swimming. With Paragon CRT lenses for night use has solved all its problems and now wearing these lenses for only two days a week every day keeping a razor sharp vision. His prescription was before CRT therapy: RE Sph.-1.50 LE Sph.-1.75. and the vision was 1.00 in both eyes with correction.

Customer # 8, He/She used soft contact lenses spare Quarterly: RE Sph.-1.75, LE Sph-2.75 with which he see 1.00 in both eyes. Several times he had been suffering because of excessive corneal did that of its lenses. After switching to Paragon CRT have solved all the problems. The ocular health has improved greatly as well as freedom from correction.

Customer # 9, He/She used only glasses and wanted to try but not recommended because the gradation refractive didn't well hope for a perfect solution. The glasses used were as follows: RE -3.00-1.75 Ax 105; LE-2.50-2.00 Ax 90. The vision was good, hh with the Rx in use (VA 1.00 in both eyes). Unexpectedly, the correction with the Paragon CRT lenses for use at night led to the cancellation of myopia and astigmatism that now is only 0.50 Dt. in both eyes. This residue will not cause problems on a visual level (VA 1.00 in both eyes in the morning and evening) or symptomatically.

Customer # 10, He/She used almost exclusively soft contact lenses and glasses sporadically. The CL used had the following prescription: RE Sph.-6.00; LE Sph.-6:00 cyl.-0.75-Ax 170. The lenses for night use it posed complex. The control sessions were numerous, but satisfaction has exceeded the effort put into the field. Now the customer # 10 can see 1.00 monocularly and 1.20 1.00 in both eyes in binocular vision in the morning and evening. Topographies below are exemplary as performed by the method of the subtraction spherical and show a wide area well corrected in both eyes. The Slight shift in time would not cause any visual problem.

We have shown only a few representative cases and a few other very ordinary in order to enable dicapire, both to professionals and normal users of visual aids, such as new technologies combined with high professional standards of optometric eye care graduates, can lead to goals once unattainable. The opportunity given by the Paragon CRT lens is particularly significant if one considers that such therapy is a reversible system that allows for optimal viewing without any visual aid pending the development of new systems and even better, perhaps, final. Only those who have kept their eyes healthy in time (which happens using Paragon CRT lenses and does not happen for those undergoing laser surgery) may benificiare other systems in the future, perhaps even free him from a slow night.
